Welcome to the Southwest District Missions page. Has your church participated in a mission project that you would like to share with us? We know that the churches in our district participate in a variety of mission projects and would like to take the opportunity to highlight those ministries. Please send via an email attachment a picture or two as well as a description of the project. Please keep your description to 100 words or less. If you have questions regarding how best to get us that information, just email us or give us a call.
Southwest District churches worked together over 2009 to collect, sort, pack and ship over 22,000 pounds of household items, clothing, and tools for the Honduras Mission Outreach. This grassroots mission effort is making a real difference in changing the lives of the very poor in Honduras. The donated items help incubate small businesses, develop employment opportunities in rural areas, and keep children in school. Additionally, the mission's effort to establish a business school in the rural area is taking shape--the dormitory and teacher's lodge have been completed and work has started on the classrooms. The new school, which will open in 2010, will provide the students with leadership and business management skills, as well as skills in written and spoken English. In the year ahead, our effort will continue to focus on collecting shoes, summer clothing, kitchenware, and tools. We are also assembling "Start up Kits" for small businesses, including sewing, carpentry and woodworking, and lumber. Other needs include a gator, or similar small gasoline utility vehicle; gardening tools; a planer; and a heavy duty table saw. For futher info: www.HondurasMissionOutreach.org; tbair@ecarthage.com
